George Fleming House

George Fleming House relies on the generous support of Donors for essential maintenance. Without the support of donors/sponsors and volunteers, George Fleming House would not be able to fund the upkeep of the facility and offer reasonably priced accommodation to our residents. The facility is olden and requires continual attention to plumbing, electrical and structural repairs.

The Beit and Wakeford Trust have been extremely supportive over many years and George Fleming House are indebted to them for their loyal support.

We have a Wish List for projects and items needed. From this list, the kitchen which was in desperate need of refurbishment was upgraded in 2019-2020. Gestures of support are extremely welcome and the Trustees and Committee stand ready to assist and support any donors that may be willing to help with ongoing maintenance and refurbishment of the House as well as support the implementation of new services that enhance the experience at GFH.

Special mention goes to Ivan Craig, Director of Sales & Marketing at Agri seeds, which has in the past supported George Fleming House by way of donating fruit trees, vegetable seedlings and maize. George Fleming House is extremely grateful to Agri seeds for their valued support.

We are eternally grateful to Des Lawler,(our previous Treasurer for over 30 years), of the Wakeford Trust for provided funding for our new palisade fencing along Herbert Chitepo Avenue and for the repainting of the entire outside of the house and surrounding buildings. George Fleming House is a major landmark in Harare & we are extremely proud of the upgrade to our facility.

Sincere thanks also go to the Campbell family of Pomona Quarries for kindly donating 20 cubic meters of ¾ inch stone to upgrade our car park.

Gestures of cash or kind to improve George Fleming House are extremely welcome and we salute those who are willing to assist in maintaining and improving this wonderful establishment.

A very generous paint donation for the painting of the foyer, lounge and dining room came from Mr. Takudzwa Edgeton Tsanga – Managing Director of EFE SECURITIES PRIVATE LIMITED, a Stockbroking Firm and a member of the Zimbabwe Stock Exchange. The paint job gave a much-needed facelift and refreshed look!

Donation of 2 Desktop Computers came from Mr. Francis F. Bwanya.

Curtains – (get info from Liz Small)

Donation of 5 desks for our residents’ room by Mrs Jenika Shah of designer label Moi Amara.

The Committee and Board of Trustees consist entirely of volunteers. The committee comprises of local professionals dedicated to the welfare of the girls and maintenance of the historic GFH building.  Anna Fleming (granddaughter of George Fleming) is also on the Executive Committee. The Board of Trustees represents the House and our Board Treasurer keeps the finances in order and has been performing short of miracles  over the years, particularly during economic turmoil and instability and when food shortages prevailed. Thankfully, the Committee has been able to generate a constant flow of food provisions and ensure that our doors remained open to young women.
